Im a bit confused about this. Is Natrix natrix helvetica the subspecies of Natrix Natrix which occurs in Britain?

Or are they the same species?

Hi Danny, yes, N. n. helvetica is the only subspecies found in Britain. Same species, helvetica is the subspecies. Quite how many races there are seems to depend a lot on who you read. I'm sure someone here can give an educated insight into how this species breaks down.
